A regular venue for professional and county amateur events, Matfen Hall's twenty seven hole golf course is rated as one of the finest in Northumberland. Set in its own grounds and parkland, it is 25 minutes drive from the centre of Newcastle upon Tyne and 15 minutes drive from the A1 and Newcastle International Airport.
A Grade II listed building, Matfen Hall is a 19th century country mansion in Matfen, the seat of the Blackett Baronets and is now an hotel and country club.
The manor and manor house, West Matfen High Hall, was sold in 1680 to John Douglas. His granddaughter and Douglas heiress married Sir Edward Blackett Bt. in 1757, thereby bringing the estate into the Blackett family.
The present house was built to replace the old manor, in 1828 for Sir Edward Blackett, 6th Baronet. The impressive Jacobean style mansion has a three storey seven bay entrance front with an impressive internal feature of a full height Gothic hall.

Sympathetically laid out on a classic parkland landscape, the 6700 yard course incorporates challenging water features and unique obstacles such as the dry stone "ha ha" wall. It offers an enjoyable test for golfers of all abilities. Ideal for golf breakgroups with a mix of handicaps.
The picturesque and fast flowing River Pont comes into play at several holes including the 14th, one of many strong par fours. The dog-legged 16th is the pick of the par fives, but Matfen's signature hole is surely the long par three 17th with its narrow green sited teasingly just over the river.
Matfen's high quality nine hole par three course is ideal for the less experienced player. Other golfing facilities on site include a driving range, short game practice area and two practice putting greens.
Although Matfen is an easy walking course, buggies are available for hire during the main season of your golf break.

Premier Rooms
The Premier rooms offer spacious luxury accommodation in the original part of the hall. These rooms are decorated with traditional elegance and have outstanding views of the gardens or golf course. The Premier rooms feature a CD player and luxurious en suite bathroom.
Principle Rooms
Matfen Hall’s Principle rooms are the perfect place to spend a special night. The Principle rooms are in the original part of the Hall with a lovely view of the garden or golf course. Two of these rooms feature a traditional four-poster bed and all have a seating area.
Deluxe Rooms
The Deluxe rooms offer spacious comfort with a seating area and a luxurious ensuite bathroom. The Deluxe rooms have a twin and double option and are situated in the new and original section of the hotel.
Balcony Bedrooms
The Balcony bedrooms are situated in the new section of the Hall and are decorated in contemporary style. The Balcony rooms have a twin and double option.

The Library and Print Room Restaurant at Matfen Hall Hotel is one of the finest dining experiences in Northumberland.
The 2 AA rosette Library and Print Room Restaurant has a combination of classic and contemporary dining in stately surroundings. Our cuisine is carefully prepared using the freshest ingredients and in season meat and produce.
The Conservatory Bar overlooks the sweeping green golf course and is the perfect place to relax with a light snack or pre-dinner drink. Enjoy outstanding lunches until 18:00 each day. Select from our light bites, main courses or sweet treats, all prepared with the finest fresh produce.
The Great Hall is a magnificent private dining venue for a large group of guests. The Print Room may be exclusively reserved for a party of up to 30 guests.
The Keepers Lodge overlooks the 18th green of our golf course and is the perfect 19th hole for golfers, non-golfers and day visitors. Pub style food is served daily until 9pm each day.
