THE HUNTING GOLF COURSE - 18 Holes, Par 72, 7,088 yds

Designed by: Dave Thomas

Don't be lulled by the rolling moorland, streams and lakes, towering trees and banks of rhododendrons - this course will catch out the unwary. Well placed bunkers and tricky greens make this USGA standard course a real challenge.

Professional Tip:

For the reserved: The front 9 holes on the HUnting course are one of the toughest stretches of golf you may ever play. Each hole presents a stern challenge to even the best players. So play it safe with every shot, especially on the tricky 8th.

For the fearless: The 16th features a sweeping dogleg from left to right. Instead of laying up in the corner move sight 20 yards left and let rip with a well struck drive on the right line, leaving you a chip short chip or putt with your second to make that birdie.

THE PRIESTMAN GOLF COURSE - 18 Holes, Par 72, 6,951 yds

Designed by: Neil Coles

The Priestman was designed by Neil Coles, chairman of the PGA, and it opened in 1999. Beautifully maintained the course has matured magnificently and it already hosts European Tour events.

On the west side of the estate, with panoramic views of the Tyne Valley, this Neil Coles designed course regularly hosts major Seniors events.
Wind can be a factor on this 7000 yard undulating course, criss crossed by streams. But don't be put off, this is a classic course and suitable for all levels of golfer. Pars are well earned here and worth toasting in the Claret Jug after your round.

You will never be short of stunning sights and unforgettable days out when you visit us. Of course, there's the world famous Hadrian's Wall, Roman Britain's biggest building project that still dominates the county's landscape almost 2,000 years after it was constructed.

Northumberland's castles are world-class, iconic buildings that echo with violent and surprising pasts. Try standing on Bamburgh beach one sunny morning or sunset and marvel at the site of the fortress towering over the dunes looking out defiantly towards the North Sea. Do the same at Embleton beach and you'll find yourself looking towards the ruins of Dunstanburgh Castle, a fortress built in the 14th Century. It was a view loved by landscape artist Turner. Coastal castles are our speciality and you can find some fine examples, particularly Lindisfarne Castle on Holy Island and Warkworth Castle. Coming inland, but staying in the north of the county, Alnwick Castle dominates its town and you may recognise it from its starring role as Hogwarts in the Harry Potter series of films.

Hexham Racecourse is set in the heart of the beautiful Northumberland countryside and perched on Yarridge Heights above the historic market town. Horseracing in the area dates back to the early 18th century yet today Hexham Racecourse is Northumberland’s only course and has been the home of National Hunt racing for well over a century.

Hexham Racecourse’s season runs from October to June with several weekend and bank holiday fixtures and popular evening meetings. The Heart of All England Maiden Hunter Chase takes place on Saturday 1st May, an event that many consider a ‘cup final’ for up-and-coming horses in the north
