De Vere Belton Woods has a gorgeous lakeside hotel, which is set in 475 acres of tranquil Lincolnshire countryside, playing host to a spa & leisure club, a restaurant , bar, luxury lodges and 45 holes of exhilarating golf. A perfect resort for your next golf break.
De Vere Belton Woods is situated in Belton which is a small hamlet in Lincolnshire and it was in this area that the Brownlow Family established a vast estate during the mid 17th Century. They built the magnificent Belton House, now a National Trust property open to the public.
During World War I, the Belton Woods grounds were used as a training base by the Machine Gun Corps. There are still signs of the firing ranges in the grounds.
In World War II, the Royal Airforce Regiment were housed in nissen huts in the grounds of Belton Woods.
Take a walk through the 475 acres of rolling woodland forest and apart from the birdlife (including buzzards, barn owls, Canadian geese and sparrowhawks) you may also notice that part of the Poplar woods are planted - a reminder that these trees were harvested to supply materials for matches.
Part of the Belton Woods Estate was sold off in the 1980s and the new Belton Woods Hotel was opened by Prince Charles in March 1992. Two golf courses were developed in the grounds around that time and a spa added in 2002. It is now known as De Vere Belton Woods and is ideal resort for a group of golfers or for those looking for a golf break at a more leisurely pace.
THE LAKES GOLF COURSE - 18 Holes, 6831 yds, Par 72, SSS 73
Designed by:
This De Vere Belton Woods championship golf course is a real golf test as many greens are guarded by lakes so choose your club carefully.
A beautiful course peppered with water hazards. This par 72 Championship course can be a tricky course for high handicappers, with lakes guarding the approaches to many greens.
Course management and shot placement is key here.
The holes are long and the fairways tight, so anything wayward from the tee could result in you having to lay up in front of the water. The 9th hole is over 600 yards, one of the longest in Europe.
THE WOODSIDE GOLF COURSE - 18 Holes, 6623 yds, Par 73, SSS 72
Designed by:
This De Vere Belton Woods golf course is a beautiful par 73 course with lush, undulating fairways. Much of the course runs alongside the magnificent woodlands on the estate. The Woodside contrasts with the Lakes course in many ways - it is well worth playing both if you are here on a weekend golf break.
The shorter Woodside course, 6,623 yards long, runs along the forested estate - spectacular at any time of year - especially in the autumn. The undulating fairways and natural hazards need careful negotiation - this is a real ‘thinkers' course for high handicappers and pros alike.
Professional tips to take into account:
For the reserved: 4th of the Woods - Aim for the left handside of the green wherever the pin is sighted. Avoid going right for fear of landing in the deepest of the newly made pot bunkers.
For the fearless: 10th of the Woodside - a well-struck drive from the tee could be enough to carry the width of this par 4 fairway. A watery grave awaits all who fail.
