Established in 1892 Castletown Golf Links is in the top echelons of links courses within the British Isles. Castletown measures 6707 yards and is an 18 hole championship links course. With the course being in its unique setting located on the Langness peninsular you can see the sea from every hole. This is a firm favourite of our Travel Caddies.
Castletown Golf Links finds its self honoured not with one but two prestigious and highly acclaimed awards. Voted 81st in the Top 100 by the Golf World Magazine 2004 for a second time in four years but now also voted 79th out of 120 by Golf Monthly.
Whilst playing the 7th Hole, named the Race Course, you may just wonder why the name ! Well there is a little piece of history attached to that particular hole. A century and a half before the first ever English Derby, the Isle of Man and the then Earl of Derby ( also the Lord of Mann) held the first ever Manx Derby over three furlongs. We must also add that this was some thirty-nine years prior to the Newmarket race, which has been proclaimed to be the oldest horse race in existence.
Anyway back to golf and in 1979 The PGA Cup was held at Castletown. These were matches where the GB and Ireland club pro’s took on the USA club Pro’s and beat them. This Competition is still in existence and is played for every two years in the UK.
Now for the past 6 years Castletown has hosted one of the biggest P.G.A. Northwest Pro Am’s, known as the Manx Classic, in 2003 it was sponsored by HSBC and Dickinson Cruickshank.
On the 10th June 2002 for the first time Castletown Golf Links held the 5th event on The Europro Tour; this event is for the up and coming professional stars of golf. In October 2003 Castletown Golf Links also hosted the Duke of York Young Championship for the first time, with competitors for all over Europe under the age of 18 taking part.

The course from the championship blue tees is 6707 yards, par 72. The respective lengths from the medal and forward tees are 6544 yards & 6063 yards respectively, not forgetting the ladies with a par 73 5636 yards.
There is only 1 tree on Castletown Golf Links & no deep dunes to seek shelter from the sea breezes. There are so many outstanding holes, from the 3 par 3’s each one very different, from the wind effecting the 8th 166 yards to the short 13th 133 Yards guarded by bunkers to the 16th 185 Yards a shaped left to right shot.
As once quoted by the famous Formula 1 driver ‘ only the best drivers live on the Isle Of Man’. So you are in the perfect position on the fairway, well there are only your second or third shots now to worry about with the same technical difficulties.
Another hole of great discussion at the 19th will always be the 17th. This hole is called ‘the Gully’ Take your drive imagine you are ‘Tiger’ with his 9 Iron and boom a 200yard drive over a deep chasm… rocks and frothy water await the miss hit shot.

Castletown Golf Links boasts its very own ‘Road hole’, which even the great Greg Norman now treats with respect. This hole only measures 423 yards with a left to right shaped fairway with all the terrain running to the out of bounds road and the beach and sea beyond. With a fabulous bank of yellow gorse (in spring time) down the entire left hand side of the fairway there is nowhere to escape to. Picking your spot for your drive is not for the faint hearted.
