Donegal Town whose name in Irish means 'Fort of the Foreigners' is situated at the point where the river Eske flows into Donegal Bay. Today, this thriving market town is still very popular with tourists and is an ideal base from which to explore the south and west of the County.
Letterkenny is Donegal's principal town and an ideal location to base yourself for a holiday in Donegal and Ireland's beautiful North West Region. Letterkenny got its name from the Gaelic Irish 'Leitir Ceannain' meaning 'Hillside of the O'Cannons'. Letterkenny had grown into a prosperous market town by the 17th century and is now the largest and most densely populated town in Donegal. Letterkenny is a vibrant town, particularly at night there are a number of very popular pubs and clubs.
