The San Lorenzo Golf Course was opened in 1988 and takes advantage of wonderful topography on the Quinta do Lago estate, winding its way gently over undulating pine woodland. The 18 holes lie in the unspoilt Southeast corner of Quinta do Lago, bordering the Ria Formosa Estuary and salt water lagoons. The course was designed by the American golf architect Joseph Lee and the beautiful Bermuda grass fairways provide perfect playing conditions.
The main feature of Vale do Lobo is its magnificently long, red sandy beach. This shoreline stretches approximately 5km and characterised by a set of high cliffs made of small eroded, fractured formations.
There are no private beaches in Portugal, however, to make their guests feel more relaxed, Dona Filipa & San Lorenzo Golf Resort has an exclusive area on the beach for their hotel guests, situated a mere 200 metres away. The hotel beach service supplies guests with sun beds, parasols as well as beach towels. Water-sports are available on Vale do Lobo beach during the summer, however these activities do not belong to the resort.

After an inviting but unreachable par 5 to open the San Lorenzo Golf Course there is a respite over the next four holes, where no demands are made on excessive length.
The eighth hole turns inland and is without a doubt one of the most spectacular par 5s, bordering the largest of the inland lakes and forcing the third shot to carry water to a tight but beautifully positioned green. With the lake to your right, the tendency is to favour the left side; however, caution is necessary as bunkers and encroaching pines lie and wait on this side.
The twelfth beings a run of four holes taking you back towards the Atlantic Ocean. This is without a doubt the most demanding hole on the San Lorenzo Golf Course with a deep chasm running along the left-hand side of a narrow fairway - a par 4 here is certainly worth an extra shot.
By the sixteenth the San Lorenzo Golf Course has swung to the west and this is the toughest pf par 3s with a full 180 m (197 yds) carry to a very shallow green, once again par is a bonus.
To enhance the playing experience of San Lorenzo Golf Course and maximize the pleasure of play, the golf course has three tee locations to play from, on each hole. The San Lorenzo Golf Course may be played from a variety of lengths which best suit the standard and ability of each golfer.
Tee times are spread out every eight minutes enabling the course to deliver an unrivalled degree of exclusivity, pace of play and enjoyment of the game.
It is difficult to describe the breathtaking finale that awaits you at the eighteenth. Here without a doubt is one of the finest finishes in golf that you will ever experience, and has become world renowned. There is no escape from the water here and the prefect drive merely lessens the challenge of a shot across water left and right, back and front to a tiny targeted green.

Loulé Fair
The weekly Loulé Fair attracts tourists from all along the Algarve looking for locally hand crafted traditional items. The increased popularity in recent years has allowed this 12th century castle town to expand beyond its original fortress walls and has blossomed in size.
Carnival
An important event is the annual carnival held in February that is considered to be one of the best in Portugal. In the town there is a museum that is devoted to the local industry of dried fruits and it is interesting to see how these products are prepared for the public.
To the west of the town is a hill-top church that is built on the site of a 16th century chapel. This is the destination of an annual religious procession that requires some physical effort on the part of the bearers of the church's religious shrines.
Alte
Further inland is the small village of Alte, a village that is known for its unspoilt rural architecture and its enthusiasm for folk music.
Paderne
Another inland village is Paderne that has a romantic 13th century castle in ruins sitting alone on the crest of a deserted hilltop.
Quarteira
The coastal town of Quarteira that was once a fishing village is now converted into a multi-apartment tourist location. Not too far away from Loulé is the village of Querença with its stalactite caves.
Salir
The village of Salir with ruins of a castle and a nearby two 800 meters long walls from the Neolithic period is also very popular with tourists visiting the Algarve.
Benafim
The small village of Benafim existing from Arab times and within easy reach of Loulé, still reflects rural life from the early part of the last century.
São Brás de Alportel & Santa Bárbara de Nexe
The towns of São Brás de Alportel and Santa Bárbara de Nexe are both small and also demonstrate the fast disappearing Portuguese traditions reflecting the rural social style of life. São Bras de Alportel has an interesting museum that houses a permanent collection of rural artefacts and costumes, reflecting bygone traditions of living in the Algarve.
